Law and Policy Programme Internship (January-March 2019)

ARTICLE 19 is looking for a highly motivated intern to join its Law and Policy Programme in London who is able to work at least three days a week, including Mondays for a minimum of three months (January 2019 – March 2019). 

Applicants should be law graduates able to demonstrate a strong interest in freedom of expression and freedom of information. The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate knowledge or experience of the human rights sector with excellent writing, analytic and IT skills. Fluency in English is essential with knowledge of a second language (preferably French, Spanish, Arabic) desirable. 

 

Key tasks will include:

  • Conducting legal research on international and comparative human rights law related to the rights to freedom of expression and freedom of information
  • Drafting summaries of cases on freedom of expression and freedom of information
  • Drafting legal briefs
  • Assisting the Law an dPolicy Programme in producing legal analyses of national media-related legislation
  • Providing general administrative support

These tasks will be undertaken according to the needs of ARTICLE 19 but wherever possible will cover areas of specific interest to the intern.

Internships are unpaid and interns are expected to secure funding for the internship independently. In the absence of bursary funding, interns may claim to a total value of £700 monthly for the following:

  • Travel, including to and from the place of volunteering;
  • Meals and Refreshments;
  • Care of Dependents, including children;
  • Administration costs, such as postage, phone calls and stationary.
